Antique English Regency Penwork Jewlery Box Signed and Dated 1825. A very fine English penwork jewelry box, signed and dated 1825.It has a pagoda top which slides out to reveal a storage compartment. The top also lifts and has a fitted tray. Under the tray are two short over two long functional drawers. The very top drawer is a dummy drawer. The work is signed on the upper long drawer with Initials A. And below that Preston 1825. All in fancy script, we could have the name wrong, it looks like Preston. The date is very clear. These penwork pieces are rarely signed and dated which makes this one important for historical purposes. It is also simply magnificent in it's workmanship. No wonder they signed it!
It is decorated on nearly every surface. Even the tops of the drawers are decorated, with a fun checkerboard pattern.
The interior is all original. The lock is original and the key is new.
All in good working order. It is in very good condition overall. There is a slight warp to the lid that slides out but it functions properly. There is also a split in the lid underneath the part that slides out, so it does not show when the box is closed. Please view all photos carefully. 13" high by 10 1/2" wide by 8 deep. A truly exceptional piece, the finest work of this type we have ever seen!
Guaranteed to be as described. The box may also have been a sewing box.It works great for both purposes. In excellent condition and guaranteed to be as described. Please do not ask us to do so.
