Hawaiian calabashes of wood for storing, transporting, and serving of foods. This wood is second to the most highly prized wood, which was Kou.
Kou and Milo wood were most favored as it's wood is flavorless, avoiding contaminating of foods. These calabashes were kept, and later became prized works of art. Still rare & sacred, Milo Wood has since been used to create fine handcrafted items and works of art. His expertise and creativity results in gallery heirloom pieces.
The lid's center has contrasting streaks that is brought to full attention from the raised beveled lid design, and from the rich dark brown colors that Milo is known for. Lighter colored Milo wood spline joints tie in cohesively and brings detail to beveled corners.
This box is crafted with 1/2" thick panels and a 1" top lid... Some nice curl in the grain too.
The flip top lid remains upright when opened, allowing you to select your items hands free. The interior had a removable sliding tray, with dividers that total 12 compartments. Plush black velvet lines the interior box and sliding tray, to protect your valuables. The bottom of the box is engraved for authenticity and woods used.
Sealant is applied for protection, then finished with hand rubbed lacquer. Please feel free to contact me for any questions or additional pictures. Weight - 4 lbs 15.5 oz. CHECK OUT MY LISTINGS FOR MORE GREAT DEALS!
